Shower Writing

I have to admit I squeed a little bit when I saw that Summer had posted this picture on her blog for the product AquaNotes. (If you’re reading in a reader, via email, or mobile you’ll want to click through to see the photo, so what I’m saying makes sense.) But it all seems very space-age, doesn’t it? Like pens in space! Wooo… waterproof paper!

I get a lot of story ideas in the shower. Particularly smutty ones. Being naked does that, although I confess I get smutty ideas even when fully clothed in multiple layers. But shower time is prime thinking time, probably because it’s warm and I’m relaxed. This likely also accounts for why it’s so common to get fab ideas while asleep, whether dreaming or otherwise. Plus I’m not talking. It’s hard to come up with ideas with gob engaged.

On the other hand, between the loofa, shampoo, shower gel, pumice stone, razors and shower chair, there’s really an awful lot going on already. I’m not entirely certain I’m up for the added degree of difficulty of trying to get clean and be creative at the same time.

So, I’ll probably not add this one to my wish list. I have a picture in my head of me: wet, naked, and soapy, holding a mesh sponge in one hand, a pencil in the other, and being tied in a knot beneath my disability chair with some hunky Scottish rescue worker trying desperately not to laugh as he attempts to extricate me from the small, glass cubicle. With my luck, it would be the cop that lives down the street. I’d never be able to leave my house again, assuming I survived, and if I didn’t survive, I’d be too embarrassed to haunt anyone.

I don’t think I’m ready for this.

  2. This would be disastrous for me! I’d like to think I could co-ordinate washing and writing, but sadly… no.

  3. I don’t get ideas in the shower. It’s hard to hear myself think over the screeching, er, singing. But I do dream ideas in dreams.

    Cute post.

  4. I get story ideas in the shower, too! But they are always boring plot points and not smutty at all. What kind of shampoo do you use? Maybe I need a change?

  5. I better get in the shower. I’m stuck on how to merge two threads in my current wip.

    …at least I’ll be clean. :)

  6. The shower is one of the best places to get ideas – that, or while doing dishes. I think my man would seriously question why there was a notepad hanging in the shower though. He thinks I’m crazy enough.

  7. If I’m in the shower, that means it’s early morning and I’m not yet awake or after the gym and I’m beat – so my brain isn’t functioning at that moment.

  8. I was going to leave a note, but I didn’t realize you had to shower if Mom didn’t threaten to burn down your room if you didn’t. ‘scuse me, funny people, I’m off to … well, you know …

  9. Hi India,

Thanks for stopping by my blog today and for your sweet comment.

This is an awesome idea. Right now, I use Crayola Bath Markers. Looks I have a new reward for myself.

    Thanks!

  10. What a cool idea – except for the fact that for sure I would slip and bash my head in :)

  11. Seems like such an amazing idea in theory (I get a lot of ideas in the shower too), but I can’t see myself doing it. Lord, what a mess I’d make!

Thank you for your comment on my blog, it was such a nice surprise!

  12. I saw this too on Summer’s blog and thought wow!!!! I want it only cos it’s new!! I like the idea of the pencil more really – a pencil that writes while wet. How kewl is that??

I never thought to be smutty in the shower. Hmmm. Time to ponder methinks…

    :-)
    Take care

  13. Imagine writing an entire story in the shower. Now if only they’d invent a bath-time coffee holder.

  14. LOL! I sing in the shower, but it is brillant for those of you who do think in the shower! I almost want one just cause! Pretty great!

  15. You have an award waiting for you at my blog, by the way!
