Swooning for Stephen
I’ve never understood our obsession with celebrities. I mean, sure, there are a few stories that you can’t help but hear about and possibly even be mildly interested in. For example, although I don’t care about his infidelity, I confess I told a few passing jokes about Tiger Woods (like the one about “at least Santa stopped with three ‘hos’”). But celebrities are just like regular people, only with better shoes and drug addictions.
I think my one exception is Stephen Fry. I read his blog, watch QI and Stephen Fry in America, follow his Tweets, listen to his podcast. I even love old episodes of Jeeves and Wooster. My favourite episodes of Bones are ones with him in it, and a little part of me wishes I were an intellectual and beautiful gay man so that I could entertain thoughts of flirting and/or stalking. I can’t help it. Smart is just so attractive. And except for the whole “if I was a hot, smart, gay dude I’d be all over that”, it’s not a romantic fantasy. It’s just… a brain fantasy. I’d love just to talk to him. Or listen. For hours.
See, I’m even a dork when I gush like a fan-girl. I don’t know why I can’t be obsessed with Brad Pitt like normal women.
So, question for you! Is there any celebrity that you secretly (or not so secretly!) entertain a passing fancy for?

Totally with you on the Stephen Fry thing! Very sexy brain. Also, and perhaps more worrying, Alan Davies. He’s just adorable! Then there’s Alan Rickman – though I think I’m not alone there – and Lawrence Fox, a new and inexplicable crush given I don’t like blondes for the most part!

There’s a few actors and athletes I admire, but not on that level.

I love Stephen Fry. I’d be more disturbed by someone that wasn’t a fan of his (though some of those people do exist).
I’ve certainly had my share of celebrity crushes over time, although no where near as many now as I used to have. My current obsession is Jemaine Clement from Flight of the Conchords. There’s just something about the awkward hair and glasses combo as well as that voice of his. I’d semi forgotten my crush until I saw a Conchords concert a couple of nights ago, and now it is most certainly back. Thankfully I made it home that night without any restraining orders being ordered against me.

Shucks, if it wasn’t for him, we never would have discovered Townsend, TN!
Have you read Making History (or any of his other books)? I lent it to a friend a while ago and am itching to get it back – it’s time for a reread!
Yes! Orlando Bloom.
And I also like Richard form Lost-his eyes are so pretty.
I used to fancy the pants off Kenneth Branagh, but I think I’m recovering from that now. Jeremy Irons’s voice still makes me swoon a little, and I’m kinda in love with Kevin McKidd.
That said, I don’t really follow any of their tweets/blogs, but maybe I would if they did them!

Not for me. I’m one of those people whose never been fascinated by the whole celebrity thing. Trying to keep tabs and keep up with my own family is enough
I’m with you on that “wishing I were intellectual & beautiful” [hold the gay] enough to sit down and talk with a few of these exuberantly brainey people. While we’re wishing, throw in rich — would have to be to run in the same circles to even BE in the same room with Stephen Fry, Kenneth Branagh — I’d like to resurrect T S Eliot, [bad boy] Richard Burton, A.A. Milne….the list is endless. Brains are veddy, veddy sexy.

There are some celebrities I admire for whatever reason…but I honestly don’t ever want to meet any of them in person. LOL It’s the same problem I have with going to concerts. I hear a song on a CD, mixed in a recording studio and all cleaned up so it’s “perfect”, and then I’m disappointed with the live version because the sound isn’t right, the mixing is off, “something” is wrong. I’m afraid it would be the same way meeting a celebrity – I’d think they were this funny, intelligent, interesting person, and for whatever reason, they’d prove themselves to be “human”…and I’m not sure I’d like that.
I do, however, love following certain celebrities on Twitter and getting a look at their more “normal” side. Which I completely admit makes no sense whatsoever, but it’s different, somehow.
Brad Pitt isn’t really my “thing” either. Harrison Ford, however…

I love Stephen Fry! And I totally agree about the old episodes of Bones.
I’m lusting over Jonathon Groff’s voice at the moment. I just want him to sing to me. LOL
I’m so pop culture uncool that I don’t even know who Stephen Fry is. :S
However, I do like looking at pretty boys, even though I myself look like a wet burlap sack full of moldy potatoes most of the time.

Daniel Craig.
p.s. I absolutely loved Stephen Fry in Last Chance to See when he fell in love with a mouse lemur. I was in tears for this little mouse lemur and felt his adoration!
Take care

I had to look up Stephen Fry.
Normally, I don’t swoon. But Orlando Bloom and the guy from the Tudors isn’t bad. And a younger Johnny Depp (or a more cleaned up one now, if he could manage that).
I agree that celebrity news is too much. Most of my information comes from a TV show called “The Soup”. Do you get that show?
At moment I’m really fancying Eric the Vampire from True Blood. It’s the nordic accent and the poise, and the way he teeters between justice and naughtiness with just the right amount of bad boy charm. When I was younger (and more foolish), I had a thing for Alexander Hamilton – he of founding father fame. After that came Captain Jean Luc Picard. I just loved the way he recited Shakespeare. My overall fangirl crush however is on dead literary writers. Namely J Luis Borges and Roberto Bolano. Swoon.
Ms Onion, when the Federal Reserve first started changing the money “around” to make it more counterfeit, my husband and I used to joke that Hamilton looked like a California surf dude, so we were calling the ten dollar bill “Surfer Boy Hamilton”.
Secretly? I had a mad crush on him because of the portrait! haha!
