Release Dates and Cows
I ended up having a great writing weekend, although it did leave me a bit brain-dead. I didn’t end up doing the official Write Your Ass Off social activity, mostly because I was so much in the zone that I didn’t want to socialise, I just wanted to write.
Then first thing Monday morning, I got an email from the editor I’ll be working with on Ordinary Angels. Oh boy… lots of paperwork! Who knew an email could have that many attachments? And this is before we even get into the full-on editing process! I did know the editing phase was going to be a lot of work though, and I’m happy to get started. One truly bright bit of news was I got my release date!
Ordinary Angels will be available as an ebook 04 APRIL 2011! Woohoo!
I never understood before this why it takes so long from acceptance to actual publication, but from talking to folks, I can see there’s a lot more that goes into pre-publication work than just editing the manuscript. Yowza… a lot more than I ever realised!
So, this is why I’ve been away from some of the social networks lately. I’m happily snowed under and writing and editing for all I’m worth.
And on a completely unrelated note, since I barely left the house over the weekend due to my BICHOK syndrome (butt in chair-hands on keyboard), a Certain Highlander took me on a long drive yesterday afternoon. We ran across this lovely lady, and so of course I had to share the picture. She wasn’t awfully fond of me getting this close to her baby. Mama made a sort of snorkough noise, and I knew it was time to get my hiney back in the car before she realised she could plough through that wire fence!
I love this time of year! I can’t tell you how much it cheers me to see the baby cows and li’l lambs all over the countryside. The simple things really are the best things.

Yipee! Congrats!
And oh, what a lovely cow. Thanks for the gratuitous animal pic.
A release date! That’s fantastic!!! I love the peeks behind the scenes with talk of edits and paperwork, etc.
Pssst…don’t forget to swing by and check on your blackjack hand!
Congrats on your release date!!! That’s exciting.
I can’t believe you have animals like that right by the road.
Have they asked your opinion on cover art yet? That’s always a lot of fun.
Loved that picture of the cows. You’re pretty brave to get that close. I think I would have used a telephoto. LOL. Do you know the breed?

A huge congrats on your release date (well, and just being in the process of becoming published) and a huge ‘AWWWWWW’ for the baby and mama cow.
Why do I love that cow so much?? *grins* Thanks for sharing!
Glad things are rolling along with the book, how fab for you! BTW, is that a Scottish Highland Cow? We used to have some in our zoo, Little Rock, Arkansas, USA and that’s what it looks like. Just wondering.
Glad your Highlander got you out for a while. It is good for the soul.
Ciao,

CONGRATULATIONS with the publication date of your fab book!! Yay!! *standing ovation and mad clapping*!
Good for you – I’m so so so super excited for you!
Oh this time of year is adorable for baby cows and baby sheep. Absolutely adorable and so feisty too – the way they run around and jump all over the place! AWWW!
This highland cow and baby are GORGOEUS!
Take care
x
Oooooh, how exciting, a release date! Congratulations!
What kind of paperwork? Sounds complicated!

BICHOK Syndrome is genetic, you realize. Nice to see the pub industry clicking right along; and “…can’t today…my editor says…” is such a chic reason to turn down an unwelcome invitation. Like me, asking you to make the rounds of Perth’s charity shops. Teddibly intellectual. All blather aside, you know I couldn’t be happier if it were happening to me. BTW: baby cow = calf. (you a city girl?)

Congratulations on the release date! (I don’t think the Write Your A** Off folks would mind at all under those circumstances
)
Yeah, there’s so much before the book is even released.
The fuzzy cows are cool.

Fuzzy Coos!!! They are so adorable.
@Aubrie Yep… we do live in a very rural part of the country. I love it!
@Maria & @Ardee-Ann It’s a Highland Cow, or as we say up here, Heilan’ Coo.
@Sangu tax forms, advertising copy, author bio, about 3 different info sheets on the book and characters, one about cover art, editing process forms, contact info and scheduling… it goes on and on!

Oh the editing is just the start of it! (btw, try and find out what other things they’re going to need to come back to you for input on and a rough idea of when they’re going to need you to do it… although it’s another area of publishing I nearly ended up getting a book delayed by three months earlier this year because nobody could do anything else until I’d indexed it! Don’t be me
)
Congratulations on the release date!! Does it feel even more real now?
Congratulations on the release day! And good luck on editing!
Wow Girl!!! How does it real to finally have a release date? Almost surreal one would think! I’m so happy for you!

Great picture! I’m glad you got out and about + had time in the writing zone. It will be interesting to hear how editing goes as you do it. Good luck with everything. April 2011?! How exciting!
Congratulations! Can’t for the release date
And love the Highland cow… I hadn’t seen a baby one before – even if it is his bum…
Congrats on your release date! I know I’ll be buying a copy.
Well done you! That is absolutely fantastic:)
