Odds and Ends

Scattered update post today! None of these items seemed to warrant a post of their own, so it’s a casserole of updates, news, and funny bits today.

I’ve been editing my so-far-untitled epic fantasy novel, and having a great time with that. It’s been suiting me lately, as I’ve not been in the mood to compose something big and new. As those close to me know, I have a health condition that flares and remits (I hate that word… makes it sound like the damned thing sends me a bill), and lately it’s been flaring. That makes certain things (such as thinking creatively) difficult. Whine whine! None of that! I have a great life, which is why you don’t see more posts about said condition. Although… this week on Facebook, one of my contacts posted this quote as his status: “The only true disability is a negative state of mind.” It was all I could do not to reply something snarky like “Spoken like someone who can walk.”  I can walk… most days. On the days I can’t, I would happily find a way to crawl over to and throttle someone who wanted to talk about my “state of mind”. (I find “inspirational” quotes really annoying.) [/end whiney rant]

But! On to funny stuff….

Great quote on Twitter over the weekend. I just wish I could remember who said it:

If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room.

I love that. It’s been a while since I felt like I was the smartest person in the room. This means that either A. I’ve been hanging out with some wicked-smart people lately, or B. I’m getting dumber. I think it’s the former, but I can’t swear that the latter isn’t true as well.

Another funny moment (humour does get me through the day)…

weirdst-shitYes, this was when I was searching for info on the google website. Ah, google, you know me so well. Guess all that snooping into my gmail is finally paying off?

Lastly, a note about the Writing Adventure Group. This month we’ve gotten only a handful of participants. I remember this happening in August last year, mostly to do with so many people being on holiday, and then the back-to-school frenzy. I’ll be in such a frenzy after Tuesday, when my teenaged Bear comes home from his state visit to America and suddenly needs to be fitted with new shoes, uniforms, PE gear and various office supplies. (Oooh.. I do love office supplies!) So, because things are slow, I’m going to put the WAG on a break for a month. Will start things back up when folks are more settled.

Oh! I almost forgot. Wanted to thank Elijah Toten for the “Lovely Blogger” award. I’ve never gotten much into blog awards, but I do confess that it feels nice to have someone think I’m lovely enough to say so on their own blog.

And today on Twitter, I again saw someone ask me to “bare” something in mind. My favourite typo ever. I laugh every single time. Life is good.

    Enjoy the frenzy!

  2. Love the quote!

I hope you’re feeling better soon – at least up to strangling the inspirational quote person :) Take care.

  4. Take care and look after yourself please!! I hope you feel better soon. And if you’re ill, you’re ill. It’s not your mind playing tricks with you!!!

I’m feeling crappy myself (physically not emotionally) and am fed up with people thinking it’s made up. It’s like -who on this planet would want to make up the fever, searing headaches, aches and pains, one foot at death’s door about to expire physical thing hmmm!?!??!!?

Ok, nuff of my ranting too! LOL!

    Thank goodness for google!

    Take care

And yeah, that’s a strange suggestion by Google. Maybe they should tweak that algorithm a little?
