Blood Lust
I’ve decided to take a little time off from some of the day-to-day writerly stuff. Just a wee vacation to rest my brain a bit. Oh I’ll still be around, of course, but I needed to relax and thought, hey, why not take a vacation? Used to be when we’d want a break, we’d take a quick weekend getaway to London or Amsterdam. Because of my current mobility issues, that isn’t going to happen anytime soon. But there have to be some relaxing things I can enjoy to at least get a mental change of scenery.
Well, the US Open has started. (Go Murray!) I do love a good, dramatic tennis tournament. Used to be I couldn’t understand why people would enjoy watching two people bounce a ball back and forth to each other! When I moved to the UK though, I started watching Wimbledon every year. That expanded to wanting to see all of the Grand Slams, and now I will catch the Masters Tourneys when I can as well.
And, I’ve decided to read some books for fun. Not for critique, to edit, to review, to do a friend a favour, to keep up on the latest genre trends, but for FUN.
First on my vacation TBR (to be read) list is Blood Lust by Zoe Winters. She’s an indie author who’s making quite a name for herself. I knew the book would be coming out soon, but when I saw she had a promotional blitz for her book release, including giving away a new Kindle as a prize, I had to buy it now. For the next 24 hours (I think), she’s got the Kindle version of Blood Lust on sale for 99¢! A book! For 99¢! (But you can also buy it as a trade paperback if you prefer a book book.)
But sadly, Towers of Midnight, the pentultimate book in the 14-book Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordon, isn’t out until November 1st. Don’t they know that I need to read this book now?!?! How rude! Same goes for Terry Pratchett’s I Shall Wear Midnight. I always do love a bit of silliness, and his books are hilarious adventures. But I don’t want to wait until September 28th!
Well, since I’m no good at waiting, I’ll have to dig into Peter James’ Dead Man’s Footsteps while I wait for his latest to come out, which will also be later this month.
In addition to reading this week, I think I’ll take in a couple of casual games, something slow and silly to pass the time without any stress, watch some trashy TV, and maybe knit myself a new hat.
Okay, so it’s not a Mediterranean Cruise. But it still sounds like heaven to me. I’m a simple girl.
So what would you do with a week off, if you couldn’t go away?

What’s that? A week off?
I’d do exactly what you’re doing, my friend, except for the knitting, which would send me over the edge. I’d scrapbook instead.

I’ve been to Wimbledon and it was a blast!
And a whole week where I couldn’t leave the house? Damn, what a shame…

Sounds like a perfect holiday to me.
As it happens, you and I are on the same schedule for different reasons … not quite a week off … I do check the students’ email twice a day but its tame at this point in a term (the truly heinous lies and sob stories, later).
I’m outlining how to organize my/our family trees. Still have some questions about how its done: present to past or the reverse; what ‘numbering system’ (WTF) to use; whether one big book or one for each family name; feel free to jump in here and give advice. Who knew there were even numbering systems?
Anyway, I’d say my research is all but complete. (That was the agonizing/fun part.) And the work begins. I’m actually quite happy to be at this point. ttfn

Can I join you?
Thanks! I’m flattered you wanted to read me “for fun!” (Authors always like to hear that!! Instead of: “Cause I felt like I should” LOL)
