Oklahoma County Lines

Although I knew this day was coming soon, I feel surprisingly…smooshy about it. Proud. Very, very proud.

Yes, today is the release day for the Kindle version of Oklahoma County Lines by Kate McIntire… my mum.

Oklahoma County Lines is a collection of vernacular poems that are full of history (the time period for most is the 1940′s to the 1950′s), humor, and most of all, honesty.

I’m not a big poetry reader. But when I first read these poems, I was so surprised at how much I enjoyed them. The topics range from growing up poor, to being seduced by a worldly artist, to standing in a queue to receive her poetic license. Kate reveals the impact the women in her life had on her, as well as the trials of her situation, and even the war.

Even if you don’t have a Kindle, you can enjoy Oklahoma County Lines via the web with the free Kindle for PC application. Also, if you want to see what her style is like before you commit the enormous sum of $2.99 (£2.17 in the UK), if you check out the Free Kindle Sample, you can actually read the first two or three poems.

Yeah, I’m biased. Kate was a great mom, and now that we’re both growing a bit older, she’s more like a sister than a mother. But even with my confessed bias, I’m sure that you’ll love this collection as much as I do.

Even if poetry isn’t usually your thing, please check them out.

  2. Kitty, the print version isn’t yet available through Amazon (it was published a few years ago, so she’ll have to work out the distribution), but if you’re truly interested, you can write to her at: kate AT katemcintire DOT com and she’ll keep you posted about it’s coming availability date!

    Thanks so much!

  3. I know $2.99 seems like a small amount but I won’t be able to afford it until later in the week. In the meantime I do have the book on my wish list at Amazon and will be buying it. Thanks for sharing the news about it. Cheers to your mom!

  9. Several persons–here and on Facebook–say they prefer books in print. I’m trying to get OCL in print on Amazon, but the maze is dense and it is not as easy as I’d hoped.

Send a message and I’ll get it to you: kate@katemcintire.com

Thank you for your interest, poetry lovers.
