Still Snowed In – Pics
Yes, we’re still snowed in. The buses are running… sometimes. Yesterday, Bear, my teenaged son, waited 45 minutes in below-freezing temps, only to have the bus never show up. He said other school buses went by, but his never came. We called the council… guess this means the driver or the bus itself was stuck somewhere. So then a Certain Highlander and Bear decided to try to take the regular city bus into town to get supplies (I feel like I’m on the frontier), but the only buses that came were going the wrong way.
Don’t get me wrong… I know it could be worse. Hundreds of motorists were stuck on a nearby highway overnight. So yes, I’m very grateful to have spent the night indoors! We have water and electricity, something we usually take for granted, but this week, we’re very grateful.
Here are some pictures of how the 50-year record snowstorm affected our little house:
This first one shows why we can’t get the car out. The snow-ploughs haven’t been yet!

Even if they had, just getting to the car is tough!

The icicle of doom outside our side window:

We weren’t the only ones caught by surprise!

Somewhere under these alien snow crystals is our car

Every time it goes over freezing enough that things start to melt, it just freezes up again.
All this, and it’s only the 8th of December! We usually don’t get the worst of our winters until January! I don’t even know how we’re going to be able to do holiday shopping this year. I thought we were clever doing most of it online, but the postaman only seems to be showing up about 1 day in 4 lately!
So how is your winter going?

Eep! Love that icicle of doom!
We’ve no snow in little old London. NONE. Strange how the weather can be so different a few hours to the north.

Wow – look at that snow and icicles!! Oh dear!! Take care please and fingers crossed that the weather eases up a little. I can only be optimistic for those “up north”!! You always get the worst of the weather from floods to snow to rain!!
Keep warm!!! x
Thanks for sharing photos! I took a few at the train station this morning but it was so cold – especially with the wind – that I couldn’t hold the camera up for very long. It snowed for 36 hours straight here… I’ll take snow any day over cold though
Yowzer!!!!and I’ve been bitchin’ because my toes are chilly, but, yowzer, your horror story makes me look as lazy as I am. I only need to toddle into the bedroom and put on socks.
Beautiful pictures…makes me miss you all. Ordinarily, I’d wish to be there — not today. Low on food? Never.
Warm hugs to you and the Bear.

That’s one big honking icicle. Our December has been miserably cold early, but then the last 2 or 3 Decembers have been like that. I’m ready for spring. :p
Good luck on the dig out.

That rose/snow picture speaks volumes. Great shot!
The ONLY thing I like about snow is that it chills a diet coke in no time at all. I plop the can in the snow drift on my deck and pull it out a few minutes later…ahhhh.
