Yesterday, I ran across an article in the Guardian called ten rules for writing fiction. The title was a lie, because it was ten rules proffered by a couple dozen writers, but that too was a lie, because some of them wrote one or three or ten. Some of the rules were self-indulgent and show-offy (these were famous authors, mind you) like “no going to London”, but a few were practical and... 
I’ve always gotten great feedback from authors when I’ve critiqued their manuscripts. I love to analyse, to edit, to proof and make suggestions. The whole process of crafting a story is enjoyable to me… but… BUT… it’s so much easier when it’s someone else’s manuscript. I think all authors and even editors have some kind of blinkers to our own habits,... 
There is a whole world of the writer of which most readers are completely unaware. (That’s probably a good thing.) If they think of us authors at all, they might think we’re at swanky coctail parties or hosting charity auctions.TV shows like Castle (although I admit I love that show) don’t help.

I hate the title of my current project. Really hate it.
Titles are funny for me. I usually change them several times as a project grows. Ordinary Angels was originally called Angel in Blue Shorts. I think the current title is much better!
My epic fantasy novel was originally called Farsight. But then in 1995 Robin Hobb published The Farseer Trilogy. I know there are often books with the same title out...

My Documents/Writing folder is reasonably well organised: Individual folders for each of the five manuscripts that could be considered active (five? wtf?), a folder for documents from my publisher, one for friends’ work that I’ve been asked to edit or review, another called ‘Mine-Misc’ for bits of projects that I’d like to work on, idea notes, or pages that I’ve started...

I wrote out a big, long, funny post about my miserable week, and then Wordpress ate it. Honestly I don’t think I have the wherewithal to write it again — my brain cells are fried from being, well, miserable for the past week (health issues, mostly).
