Little Lambs Eat Ivy

Just a quick little post today. I have been knitting to ease the boredom of being 90% restricted to the horizontal position, and I found a pattern that was just adorable. This little lamb took me one Star Trek movie and two episodes of NCIS to finish. You can download this pattern free from Fuzzy Mitten. If you’re a knitter, you really should check out her site. She has a ton of really cute figures... ...Read More

Quick Tip #7: Your Grandma Can Find You Online

(I’ve had a really difficult week this week, health-wise, thus the lack of posts. But since I’d rather rant or laugh than share the woes, I’ll share something that is both funny and scary for my Quick Tips category.) After reading some unfortunate, but inadvertently hilarious, problems people get themselves into because of Facebook (or Twitter, or texting, or IMs, or email). Problems... ...Read More

Excuse Me, But Your Poverty Is Ruining My Vacation

This time of year, I become acutely aware of poverty around the world. I don’t know why. Maybe because it’s freaking cold, or maybe because the TV is full of desperate adverts about some useless crap that we just MUST buy in order to have the proper “holiday spirit”.  I don’t know if it’s just me growing old and cynical, but the older I get, the more I just can’t... ...Read More

How It’s Supposed To Work

So, the way I’m supposed to write goes something like this: (Table A) 1. Get a brilliant idea 2. Flesh out idea in a rudimentary outline 3. Name characters, decide on location, that type of jazz 4. Sit down every day and just flippin’ write it. But… Other than blog posts and emails, I haven’t written anything in months (and months and months). It feels wretched, but sometimes life... ...Read More

Readability

On Twitter yesterday, someone posted a link yesterday to a Readability Meter. Now I’ve never paid that much attention to these tools, even though a lot of them come with Word and WordPerfect and such. As it was one of those days (you know the ones), I decided I could fritter away a little time testing some of my stuff to see what US grade reading level someone would have to have to understand my... ...Read More

Ask and You Might Receive – Marsha Moore

I’m lucky enough to be friends with Marsha Moore, author of the new travel book “24 Hours London” (Available from Amazon USA or in the UK). I love the concept of this book, because Marsha talks includes hidden gems that other guidebooks won’t tell you about. About the book: An around-the-clock guide from 5 a.m. fishing to midnight swimming. Fancy a hearty English breakfast with East... ...Read More

What Do I Want?

I had to laugh a couple of months back when I saw this on the Huffington Post: Most Inappropriate Google Suggests Of All Time. But I find it strange how so many people and even my computer try to tell me what I want. Google wants to tell me what I’m really looking for since what I typed in isn’t as good as what they think I meant to type, Facebook wants to tell me who I want to be friends with... ...Read More

A Chat with Gary Murning

I met author Gary Murning on Twitter, and was so pleased when I first heard that his book If I Never was going to be published by Legend Press. Now that his book is out, I thought it would be a good time to pick his brain about his book, publishing, and his road to success. This is what he had to say: ————– I’ve always had a fairly positive attitude, to writing and life... ...Read More

Ring Ring….

These days I do 92% of my internet browsing, Tweeting, and game playing through my iPod Touch, and I’ve noticed that very few blogs, including mine, had mobile support! So today I’ve added the WPTouch plugin to make browsing this blog much easier for those who, like me, have plunged into the mobile world. If you own a blog, I would ask, even beg, for you to add this or a similar plugin!... ...Read More

May Contain Nuts

My Sweetheart was watching a live webcast of a Microsoft convention this afternoon, and among the speakers was one of the makers of Wordpress. He said that last year, the two most visited blogs were a political action blog, and, um, a website devoted to funny pictures of cats. I really love people. Anyway, I listened for a bit, but then had to leave due to a nap sneaking up and whacking me on the back of... ...Read More
